Our Buildings
We have two buildings on a level lot that can be used for a variety of events.
The old church building still has the pew seating and offers great acoustics for speaking or musical events. The community hall is an open space which allows for the area to be set up as required for varied events. There's a raised stage area at the front of the hall which could be used as a focal platform. There's a kitchen area where food can be plated to be served to your guests. Presently we are unable to offer food preparation services but there is a large refrigerator and range for reheating food on site. Let us know how we can assist you with your planned event. Stay tuned for further updates on our facility. |
Community Uses
Our community center is available to be used for functions that fit in our association's mandate and meet with community values.
Some of the events that could be hosted on site include community club or group meetings, funerals, weddings, music concerts, recreation events, private parties or events. The level lot has parking and can be used for smaller outside events. Contact us for more information or to book a site visit before planning your next event. Site fees and or rental costs will be made available upon request. E-mail: [email protected] |
A Brief History on our buildings
Construction of the church building began in 1857 and it was officially opened in February of 1858. The building plans were drawn up by Rev. Dr. James Smith, a Presbyterian Missionary from Scotland. Rev. Smith named this new church SPRINGSIDE in reference to the numerous springs of water on the nearby hill.
Around 1890, a manse was built on the west side of the church. The first church hall was located across the road from the manse. This hall burned in 1924 and the present one , just to the east of the church, was constructed. The present day church hall was dedicated in 1926. It was noted by the minister of the day that a church hall helps reach out into the community. For over 160 years now this site has been a meeting place that helps bind and mold our community. |
